Import Restrictions

Prohibited Items

Document Restrictions

The destination country or territory considers the following items document shipments. If criteria are listed, the shipment must meet those criteria to be considered a document shipment. Airline Tickets Airline tickets must be issued to an individual name to be classified as a document. Annual Reports Bids Blueprints Brochures Considered documents below 5 Kgs. Any Brochures having samples, fabric samples etc should be keyed and confirmed as non-documents. Business Cards Cash Letters Catalog Considered documents below 5 Kgs. Any catalogs having samples, fabric samples etc should be keyed and confirmed as non-documents.. Charts Checks Computer Print-Outs Drawings Envelopes (Blank) Document quantity limit 1-10 envelopes. Forms (Blank) Graphs Greeting Cards, Invitations Intercompany Mail Document weight limit up to 5 kgs. Magazines Document weight limit up to 5 kgs. Manuals (Technical) Manuscripts Mylars Negotiable Bonds, Drafts Newsletters (Company) Document weight limit up to 1 kg. Newspapers Pamphlets Considered documents below 5 Kgs. Declaration

Low Value Shipments Import via Mumbai Airport Low Value Non Dutiable Shipment Effective June 2015, all Gifts and Samples shipments will be subjected to 100% physical Customs examination. Service delays may be expected. Low Value Dutiable Shipment With effect from 17th June 2015, all low value dutiable shipments will be held by Customs until Power of Attorney from consignee and Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation are submitted to Customs in strict accordance to the Courier regulations. MSDS-NON DG Goods under IATA Special Provisions A67 require a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). It is not required for all, however shipments can be held by local authority in United Arab Emirates after screening due to lack of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) or NON DG (Dangerous Goods) declaration letter from the shipper resulting to misconnections and impacting end-to-end service. It would be advisable for all shipments originating, transiting and terminating for UAE to have MSDS or NON DG declaration from shipper enclosed in the shipment and copies to be uploaded in IDIS. Packing List In addition to the commercial invoice, a packing list is mandatory for multiple package shipments and must be provided by the shipper.

Duties & Taxes

All goods imported into India from abroad is liable to duties of Customs under Section 12 of the Customs Act and also is liable to all the restrictions under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulations) Act 1992. However, the Government has exempted gifts received from abroad by persons residing in India from the whole of duties of Customs and from restriction under FT (D&R) Act. At present, import of goods upto the value of Rs. 5,000/- is allowed as gift, duty free. This exemption is allowed only for bonafide gifts imported by air or post.
